    Hello,
I want to visit Iceland, I want to see the landscape and where "the mid Atlantic ridge comes ashore" - ( it crosses one of the national parks ). This would be my first every holiday alone. Just looking for some tips,
    • is may an ok time to visit?
    • worth renting a car?
    • is 5 days too may or too little
    • will language be a problem
    • book by myself, or find a package deal
I am not the most adventurous person either if that makes any difference.

Yeah, May should be a fine time to visit, the snow and ice will be gone, so you don't have to deal with slush, etc. I would say renting a car is worthwhile, there's loads to see in the country.

About time, that's just something you have to decide for yourself. Flick through a couple of travel guides, Wikitravel, etc., and decide what you want to see. Then figure out how many days you'll need :)

Language shouldn't be a problem, they won't all speak English (though many will), but they'll be used to dealing with tourists who speak no Icelandic. Out of courtesy, you should learn the basics phrases (Hello, goodbye, thank you, etc.)

There are plusses and minuses to booking yourself. Much more freedom, cheaper, and a greater sense of accomplishment. However guided tours will take the headache out of the whole trip, and you'll probably see/learn some stuff you wouldn't have on your own. Search for guided tours and see if any strike your fancy. Again, it's a choice you have to make yourself!
