Is this a scam?

    Here is a message I recieved after enquiring about a van on a uk site: person obviously thinks im in uk.

    Hi James ,

    I`m still selling the van which comes with new MOT and Road Tax, HPI report, low mileage and full service history, never involved in any type of accident, excellent condition, looks and drives great. The final price is not negotiable: £3850. My husband died 2 months ago and I was left with it and an unpaid mortgage that is due next week. If you agree I can send you the link to my private auction on eBay so you can buy it from there since I all ready had a buyer last week who came up with some fake notes. I don`t really trust someone else to come around my house. Please note that you will be able to check directly on ebay the registration and all the information about it because they did a HPI check(it does not have any outstanding finance). As soon as you will confirm the payment to eBay, I will proceed with the delivery without any additional costs for you. You will receive the van with all the documents. This way you will actually pay for van after reception and inspection, considering that the funds will be held and released to me only after you accept and confirm the delivery. Do you think a 7 days inspection period will be enough? Within this time frame you have to decide if you purchase it or not. If you decide against the purchase you will be fully refunded without any added charges to your account. The vehicle will be returned to me if you reject it upon inspection, but I honestly doubt this will happen.

    Probably; particularly the random sob story bit to encourage you to pay quickly makes me suspect its dodgy as hell.

    My advice, walk away. Or proceed with complete scrutiny for every detail.

    How to be even more sly than a scammer.
    It's easy............. because most of them are lazy and use the same format all the time.
    Just google one complete line from the message.

    Like this........ ""If you decide against the purchase you will be fully refunded without any added charges to your account"

    This is the bit that makes it stand out as a scam
    This way you will actually pay for van after reception and inspection, considering that the funds will be held and released to me only after you accept and confirm the delivery.

    Paypal dont provide an escrow service, which is what they are describing.

    Presumably this is one of those scams were you send the money and they send a fake e-mail saying the funds haven't actually left your account. Meanwhile they're off with your money and have 7 days to block you from contacting them.

    yep, thats the trick I use. Many do not know that if you use quotes in google it forces it to search for that exact pharse.

    So you can use few words, as long as they are unusual to appear together.

    larry bono u2 edge -gets 126,000
    "larry bono u2 edge" -gets 2 results

    I look for pidgin english or weird formatting. like the colon here
