Transferring onto Back to Education Allowance

    Hello all,

I am in a tricky spot and looking for some advice.

I had been on the JSA since late August 2013 until early June 2014. I have satisfied the 234 days needed to qualify for BTEA.

I am due to start a third level course on 15th September 2014.

The tricky part is that in June I broke my leg and because I was living abroad in 2012 and on JSA in 2013, I have no stamps and therefore was not entitled to JSA after my injury. Therefore since my injury I have been getting weekly supplement benefits. (This is not a social welfare payment)

In order to be transferred to BTEA, I will need to be on a social welfare payment immediately before starting this course. I rang Citizens Information and they suggested I should go to my GP and get a letter stating that I am fit to work, and bring this letter to my local social welfare office. The problem is that I am still on crutches and only fit for certain types of work (e.g. office work (which is the environment is usually work in))

Is there any other way around this? If I have to do it I will, but surely someone can look at my situation and make an exception to get me transferred directly from the benefit I'm on now to Back to Education Allowance.

    Thanks

applying for a disability payment might be a possible option as you will get to keep that payment in college and also get free travel pass etc

I'm also applying and am qualified to receive BTEA. I'm getting JSA at the moment and my question is, once I supply the application to social welfare, will they stop my JSA immediately or will I keep getting it until they approve my BTEA application?
