I'm due to start college in 2 weeks and I have been heavily means tested on my rate of jobseekers allowance . So I was wondering will I get the same payment I receive now or will I get a higher rate once I start college .

You might get a bit more on BTEA, if nothin else you ll be getting it into the bank which is alot less headwreckin than havin to collect!

You can work as much as you like on BTEA aswell as far as i know which is handy too.

Alot of people are saying I should get a rate of €160 or so a week because I'm over the age of 26 but I just don't want to register and not be able to afford to go . The reason they crucified me was down to money I have in a savings account that I cannnot touch yet they insisted it was still means .

Ah yeah you ll just have to weather the storm you ll get it in the end, there just lookin for any ole reason to make life difficult for people these days, they dont want you on it so they ll be as picky as possible!

Theres a whole load of stuff you can apply for as a student if you re genuinely struggling, go to your local citizens advice they ll get you goin on the right track!

I got confirmation I wont get any extra money so I'm now applying for a susi student grant . I was given advice to sign off social welfare and go through susi on the phone by one of their people . Well they didn't really tell me to sign off but they said crunch the figures which I have done and my income is far below the 22,000 that susi assess you on . So I should get a full grant .
