Washing machine repair warranty vs independent

My Hotpoint washer dryer has started to give some problems. Left stains on the clothes after one wash and now is making a rattling noise (not sure if that's bearings). It's still under parts warranty but then would have to pay their official repair guy his call out fees etc.

Does anyone know in general are you better off to just stick with someone local/independent or is it worth paying Hotpount because the parts would be covered?

I took out an extended warranty five years ago on my washing machine, it's rolled over every year since.

In that time, I've had six callouts, for a broken door, a damaged heating coil, and four other issues I can't remember.

All parts have been replaced within two days, and it costs me less than a tenner a month.

I would reckon I've more than broken even at this point, and the sheer peace of mind knowing you can call up, have a tech out in a couple of days, and it's fixed is priceless.

I'm guessing it's too late for that now seeing as it's actually broken so am gonna have to pay :( just hoping it won't be too much!

Don't be so sure of that. Ours is a hotpoint, and the first time I rang with an issue they asked if we wanted to do it by taking out the extended warranty, and we were fine, covered for the callout and everything.

In many newer machines now, if the bearings fail, it means the entire drum has to be changed, as they're sealed. So if under the parts warranty, then definitely go down that route. Your entire machine will be fully guaranteed the next 3 months after also.
