    Hi Fanadman,

    It looks like a water beetle to me possibly with its young on its back.
    Saw one before at home. I would guess that they are the biggest beetles on this island.

    Thanks for that - everyone was hoping it was a mummy beetle being a taxi for the babies :D The pic was highly zoomed so it was difficult to identify the beetle......well, to my eyes anyway lol

    Not a water beetle but a Dung or Dor beetle of the genus Geotrupes.

    the passengers are mites, afaik not parasitic but hitchhikers.
