Wonder if you lads can advise. I have a 3 year old ewe with a cut on her neck and lots of white pus. No flies. Sprayed some alymicin on her. Warning, pic is a bit graphic. What would Ye do? Vet?

It's a magpie attack. Give her some antibiotics and then get some dettol, dilute it and wash the wound out with a syringe. Do it for a few days, and put her in the house where the rotten birds can't get her.

+1 on Cran's advice. Although it looks a bit gruesome I don't think the expense of a vet call out is required. A course of antibiotics will clear it up.

use salt or iodine instead of dettol

Dettol is actually supposed to inhibit healing

I find blue spray clears things like that up as well.

Thanks for the replies. Went down to the Vet earlier and got some PenStrep. Vet also gave me a handy stockholm tar spray to put on to prevent flies.

Anyway, went down to the field to take her in and the wound looks much better, no pus. Sprayed her with the tar and left her in the field, ill see how she gets on.
