Can this be done easily? I just want something simple where when anyone tries to access a folder - it will require a password for access. Can it be encrypted on the hard drive also easily?
    Thanks

Simple answer is No unfortunately, why ms never built this option in I cant understand as its something most people would like.

You could zip folders that would be your next best option I reckon.

There is a program called truecrypt which will allow you to create a container that is encrypted and password protected.

    Have a look at http://www.pcworld.com/article/242612/how_to_use_truecrypt_to_encrypt_your_sensitive_documents.html

You can download truecrypt at the bottom of this page:

    http://truecrypt.sourceforge.net/

There are warnings about true crypt no longer being supported but that does not make a difference, its still secure (much more so than a zip folder). Be sure that you keep a record of the password as there is no way to retrieve it.

What version of Windows do you have? Because, Windows 8 pro has Bitlocker that you can use to Encrypt your drives.

Making sure nobody finds your stash? :P

As mentioned above, zip and encrypt it is your best bet :)
