Car door won't open with key

My car door doesn't open or lock with the key it self but works perfect with the fob.
When I turn it to open I can hear and feel the lock turn but the door doesn't open
Any ideas what could be causing this issue?

could be the bar inside the door has fell off , or at worst you need a new barrel you may have to take off the door card to inspect it

Does the key work in the other doors? Has the key ever worked in the door, could be a possibility the door or lock was replaced at some stage.

There's only the one keyhole for the doors,it works in the boot but not the door
It's a second hand car so the changing of the barrel could be a possibility.
I'll have to have a look behind the door as I can feel the lock turning as it should as to open the door but it stays locked and won't open

Could be as simple as needing oil. What car is it?

As Colm says it could just need a good oiling, though another cause may be something as simple as the rod from the back of the door handle to the door lock may have become unattached.
You will need to remove the inner door panel, so as to have a look at the lock mechanism.
    Hopefully thats all it is.

all the previous suggestions would surely sort it out but just to add one more aren't some car locks on doors electronic and simply have two wires going to the back of the barrel maybe the solder has broke and its not connected anymore its another possibility I suppose

Is it possible you have double locking enabled, ie you have pressed the remote twice so double locking is engaged meaning the key won't open the lock?

    Is that the dead lock?
Even if I press it once to lock it then try to open it with the key it just turns as it should but the door won't pop open

Yes if pressed twice it's activated, once it't just normal lick so should open.

Key turn would deactivate double locking either way on an avensis.
