All Season Tyre Update

    Howdy all,

For some reason, some of the All Season and Winter tyre threads from last year are closed so I need to make this thread just to make a small point to conclude a discussion about choosing different all seasons models.

There was some chat among members about the Vredestein Quatrac 3 tyre compared to others. I have had used Hankook H730 All Seasons for a couple of years but then opted for two of the Vredesteins to try them out as they had been highly recommended both here and on tests.

Once fitted (on the front) I noticed that the car had a feeling of floating or a lack of sharpness compared to the Hankooks. The front now has a set of H730s again and the difference is startling.

The car is now much more confident on the brakes in the dry and in the wet. Although it is only a Golf estate, there is a relative sense of precision from the steering now. Perhaps the difference is more pronounced during the Summer with temp differences but the main thing is that I wouldn't recommend the Quatrac 3 to anyone as they never matched the Hankooks.

I haven't been able to compare them in snow or ice, only in the Winter and Summer on dry and wet roads but I am pretty convinced now as the Hankooks performed very well in what snow and ice we have got over the years.

I am not a Hankook sales rep btw :p The Goodyear all season tyre is next on my list.

    Happy tyre-ing all!

I've been using Hankook all seasons for about 4 years. Wouldn't change for diamonds. They're great in the dry and even better in the wet.

Vredesteins of any sort are the most over rated tyre on the market in my opinion.

I've been running All seasons for about 6 years, and I'd find it hard to move from Nokian, however I have used Hankook in the past and found them excellent tyres.
I might have a look at a set of the 730's as I'll be due a set before the Winter.
    How are they for wear?

I am looking back on my receipts and I have ordered 4 of the H730s since late 2010. I have not taken very detailed note of mileage I am afraid.

I have had the car for 50,000 miles. The first 10,000 were on a set of Coopers and the majority of the last 10,000 had two Quatracs and the four H730s have been in between.

Two of the Hankooks on the front had to be replaced a bit early as one got slashed by debris which is why I got the Quatracs. The two I have left still have a reasonable amount of tread left.

My car is heavy on front tyres.

The wet performance is what I noticed to be very good too.

The Quatracs have a lot of mean on them still, so they will annoy me on the back of the car for a while yet :p

One interesting note is that the Hankooks are quieter in terms of road noise. I had been struggling with the noise recently and swapping the tyres helped a lot.
Mind you, I am sound engineer so I may notice these things quicker or easier. I could be a bit too picky. :p

I have at least 15k miles on Nokian Allweather+ so far, I just rotated them the back have 4.5mm and fronts have 6mm left.
Thats including 2000 miles in 40ºC in France at 130 Kph!
If the Hankooks are anywhere near that I may just try a set.

I found the wintry extremes capable, but the Nankangs you got seemed to do just as good a job :D

I might go winter tyres again this winter so will leave a choice to make.

Any further info on expected lifetime on these Tyres?
I have to get a new set soonish running on 4mm all round, Not sure whether to go for Hankooks or Goodyear Vector 4's at this stage not much in the difference between them.

Ah F***! I've just bought a set of 4 Quatrac 3 for the Audi. :(

Will let you know how I get on with them, don't have them fitted to the car yet but will be doing so in the next two weeks.

I bit the bullet and bought a set of 4x Conti Wintercontact TS850, really reasonable from Oponeo €64 ea.
Looking forward to seeing how they perform compared to the Nokian AW+
I don't expect the same mileage out of them though.
