Drink driving Fine

Hi guys, basically I'm looking for some info from people as I'm getting mixed answers everywhere else I ask.

Basically I got into the car after drink and I was caught by the gards, ino it was a stupid thing to do and I hate myself for doing it.

    I got a fine of €200 and a ban for 3months,
so I paid it off and I felt that was the end of it as I was told you don't get convicted once you pay your fine and serve your ban. Then a few weeks later I got a summons to court and I got convicted for careless driving, fined €175 and no ban. I'm currently trying to get into the irish naval service, I've passed everything and it's down to garda vetting now. I've been told by everyone that they only look for things such as assault.

    So my questions here are:

    1) Would the drink driving show up on the garda vetting even tho I paid my fine and was not convicted for it?

    2) Would this affect my chances of getting into the irish naval service?

    Thanks.

Moved from Feedback - I'm sorry mods if this isn't the right place for it, but it definitely wasn't a Feedback thread :)

Sorry I don't really use this that much so I'm not sure where it was meant to go ?

Would possibly have been better as two threads, one in legal discussions on whether this shows up in vetting - I'm pretty sure it does. I'm not sure if the ban/fine is something the guards themselves impose? I assume you went to court?

The other in the military forum asking what the ramifications might be. In all honesty I'd assume it won't help you and given the competition for places that could be fatal to your application. Two driving convictions in the space of a few months would indicate to me you lack the maturity for military service but then I've never served so take what I say with a pinch of salt.

We all do silly things, unfortunately like accidents, they're as serious as their consequences. Best of luck to you.

This happened when I was 19 two years ago I forgot to mention. It wasn't two separate incidents it was all on the one night it's just I got fined for the drink driving and then summons to court for the same car incident and they convicted me for careless driving, what I'm asking is would the fine show up as the vetting form asked about previous convictions?

What details are disclosed as a result of Garda Vetting?
The following may be disclosed to the authorised liaison person in the registered organisation:

Details of all convictions not subject to the administrative filter.
    Details of all cases pending.
Non convictions will be considered for disclosure where the circumstances of an offence gives rise to a bona fide concern that the person concerned may harm a child or vulnerable person.

    1) Motoring Offences :
District Court convictions for motoring offences will not be disclosed after
7 years even where more recent offences have been committed. This is
because it is considered that old minor motoring offences would not be
relevant due to the passage of time.

I'm not disputing what you say; it just seems strange to be as I thought drink driving was a mandatory court appearance and ban. I'm open (and infact welcome) correction on that.

It definitely wasn't a case that you got arrested/pulled for drink driving and then ended up convicted of careless driving?

It was a fixed penalty notice of €200 and 3 months off the road with no court appearance, so I'm guessing because I wasn't summonsed to court it wasn't a conviction and only a fine ?

I was summonsed to court and convicted of careless driving for the same car incident, nothing about drink driving ? It's confusing ino I just wanted to know do fines come up aswell.

Ah I see it now - you we're just passed so.

I don't think the drink driving will show up as it's subject to the administrative filter, the careless driving will. Personally I like your chances better now, but perhaps ask the guys over in the military forum.

Sorry if I wasn't clear with my question btw, and I appreciate your response.

I'm just paranoid because I've done through so many stages to get this far and I badly want to get in.

I have talked to people ino in the navy and they said I've nothing to worry about but I just wanted to know from other people who may know. Ino the careless driving will show up as I was convicted of that, the fine on the other hand had me confused.
