Lost P45 from previous year

So I've been offered a new job, the last time I worked on finished in August 2013, I didn't leave on great terms, and I can't find my p45, I really don't want to be emergency taxed. Can I just call the tax office to fix this , I dont want to go back to the other employer, and do I even need it since it's from the previous year, could I just ask the tax office for a certificate of tax credits?
Any help would really be appreciated :)

A P45 from a previous year is of no good in the current year.
Just give your new employer your PPS no and details and they will register you to receive this years tax credits.

in addition to giving employer your pps number, give revenue a ring yourself and register yourself against the new employer. you'll just need the new employer's company name and company number. Unfortunately, you can't always rely on employers to be speedy about registering new employees and it'll get your tax affairs sorted faster.

This suggestion always bugs me. If you were in a restaurant would you ask the waiter to bring the bill to your table, and while they're gone to get it, head up to the the counter to pay?!

You should do one of the 2 things suggested, either give your details to the employer and let them register you, OR call revenue and give them your employer's details. Otherwise you're just duplicating effort for all parties involved...

    Phew, rant over. :o

I agree you shouldn't have to do this barneystinson, but time and time again I've seen here on boards employees who don't get registered for a few pay periods. However, same employers will often insist you give them the pps details. if you want something done, sometimes you just have to do it yourself. at the end of the day, it's the employees interests in getting their pay sorted fast and efficiently - firstly to get even payments of wages/salary and secondly, no one wants to have to pay more tax at year end cos they weren't registered correctly in the first place.

    Measure twice, cut once!

Better to get it sorted. I'd call the tax office with my Employer's ER number
