Posting for a work colleague who has this dilemma ( honestly).

He isn't driving at present but needs to be back on the road.
He has 2 years ncb but 4 or 6 points ( he said 5 but I don't know how he has 5).
His points are due to be discarded sometime on Dec but his ncb will be a year old in Oct ie he hadn't driven since last Oct.

Is it worth getting loaded insurance with points in order to keep 2years ncb or lose the ncb. till his points are wiped.
I think he intends driving home for Xmas (foreign national) .
I told him that until he gets a lot of quotes to see what they come back with but thought I would g me back with.
Oh and foreign national with Irish Licence.
    TIA

lots of ways to get 5 points...careless driving for instance or not having an NCT
