    Hi Sm8,
I just got back from Manila yesterday. I had a great trip, but you need to be aware and cautious at all times, for example, always ask the taxi man to turn on the meter. Overall, Filipino people are very friendly and I would even go as far as saying, maybe a bit too friendly. Traffic in Manila is terrible, so give yourself an extra 20 minutes wherever you plan on going. Also, go to the Mall of Asia. Manila offers many malls and you are spoiled for choice. Let me know if you need any more feedback........

I was in the Philippines for the second time for a month during July and early August myself, Manila is an absolutely huge city, well actually its more of a conurbation with individual borough cities such as a Makati, Taguig etc. I had ambitious travel plans for the country during that trip but the Malaysian Airlines MH17 disaster ended them as I narrowly cheated death by not boarding that flight and eventually forced myself to fly to Cebu but even then with Typhoons and heavy rain each day alot of my trip plans changed.

If your just staying within Manila then I wouldn't worry a huge deal about vaccines its when you go rural that you need to be concerned. Just be sensible with food and never drink the water there.

Filipino people are so nice, but as always have your wits about you. The Mall of Asia is huge but not my preferred mall as many parts of it are not air-conditioned and its sort of like a Retail Park with parts outdoors. The Mega Mall and Shangri-La Mall are by far the best in Manila I think.

Manila Airport Terminal 1 is an absolute dump and be prepared to be very annoyed when flying through Manila airport, the air conditioning does not work, there will be huge long queues for just to enter the terminal building and again for checkin. There is a 550PHP terminal fee which is not included in your ticket which you'll have to pay before going through immigration where they will stamp you out of the country. After security there is a small restaurant upstairs which is air conditioned, a welcome relief in what has been voted the worlds worst airport for the last few years.

You will get the best rate if you change Euro into Peso in the money changers in these malls, much cheaper than what you'll be charged by the Irish rip-off banks. Don't obviously take too much cash incase of robbery etc.
