Deep Section Wheels for CX

What would be a suitable set of deep section, tubular wheels for cross? I've looked at www.wheelsfar.com but I really don't want to have to pay import on anything so that probably rules them out.

Probably something with a 35mm depth is what I want.

Anyone have anything that they recommend?

I reckon 500 is the max I would go.

May I ask, what it the rationale behind deep section rims for CX?

Is there any difference between normal deep road wheels and deep cx wheels? I have a set of 36mm wheels at home I was thinking of using at some stage. They are chinese wheels and have been faultless on the road bike. 20 spoke front and 24 spoke rear.

I would see nothing wrong with using road ones. CX ones might have a few more spokes. Tubs is what I want though.

You can run lower pressure with less of a risk of puncturing. Lower pressure = more grip.

They are 38mm tubs, with novatec hubs. Go to ebay.com, search for carbonzone and look in their shop. IIRC they were about 300 - 350 all in. I raced them on the roads a good bit this year, with all the normal potholes and stuff and they have been fine. They could probably do with being trued however. They come with brake blocks, shipping was a couple of weeks. Couple of lads in the club have wheels from them for a few years with no issues. Not sure what width they are - does the width make that much of a difference?

Internal or external nipples? Internal nipples with tubs is stupid.

Raam, Novatec are now doing their own branded rims on their hubs and have a UK supplier afaik.
The details are in a mag I have in the car . Will give ya the details later if ya need.

I have 50mm carbon rims, hand me downs from the husband (he used them for 2 seasons). Rims came from Yishun and he built the wheels, no issues so far. Nice and light. Removing the glue from last year was not fun.

I know Robin Seymour is building deep section tubs in Expert Cycle these days. Drop in and have a chat with him in Rathfarnham!

Ordered a set of schwalbe sammy slick tubs - definitely not a mud tyre (i can use my existing clinchers for muddy races) that were on offer for 25 quid each on bike24.de. Guess I will be racing tubs this year....

(I also put gears on my bike, but don't tell anyone!)
