I purchased a 4G Three mifi device but service is still intermittent/patchy.
Any hints or tips or suggestions of a better provider e.g. Vodafone.

    Thanks

The service on the train is also via 3, so it will be bad on your mifi and on the train at the same time.

I can't advise but when service is poor look out the window - the train is usually in a cutting, and I don't think another provider can get around that.
