Buyer gave wrong address

I sold an item via a Facebook group page recently – buyer paid me by paypal. All ok until a week after posting they asked where was parcel – turns out the address on the invoice from paypal was their old one. Unfortunately I didn’t send by registered post so I can’t track the parcel. Buyer seems genuine enough its been nearly a month now and has claimed they have visited old address and people at this address hasn’t received the parcel. No dispute opened with paypal as yet. I have filled in the online form for missing items with an post. What else can I do? If buyer opens dispute with paypal am I going have a leg to stand on since I didn’t use registered post? Or was it the fault of the buyer as they didn’t provide the correct address? I actually think the buyer is telling the truth but there is a 3rd party involved i.e. the occupants of the address to where the parcel was sent. Although this is a specialised item so not sure if it of any use to anyone other than the buyer!

I'm afraid you are screwed if he opens a case with paypal. You have to be able to prove that the item was delivered. As it didnt have tracking you cant do that. The wrong address isnt really relevant here. I suspect you will be reimbursing the buyer. Was the package insured?

Beano is correct. Even if you have an agreement with the buyer regarding the registered post Paypal work on the assumption that all items are traceable & if not it is the senders loss if the item doesn't arrive.
