Left hand Shimano Shifter Q.

I know it's pretty difficult to describe in a post but how stiff should the return spring be in the left hand shifter on Shimano shifters when going from big ring to small. On mine (5700 shifters) it seems quite stiff and there is a loud and noticeable click as I shift down to the small ring and the derailleur snaps inwards quite hard.

The exact same happens in my other bike with Tiagra shifters so maybe it's normal as I have never had the need to adjust the cable tension at the derailleur.

Yep, this is normal. There is almost a "bang" when I shift down with my 5700.

Yeah that's it exactly. I hadnt really thought much of it until yesterday when my chain came off while changing down to the small ring and wondered if the cable tension was too tight.
