Cycling into Dublin from the N7

A few of us (12 approx.) from North Tipp will be cycling up for the match this weekend. I am aware of the significant roadworks at Newlands Cross and also the issue of negotiating the Red Cow. What would people suggest would be the best route from the N7 to Croke Park? We will be doing this on Saturday and while our participants are staying in various parts of the city we want the stadium to be our end destination. Advice appreciated.

There is signage that says cyclists shouldn't use Newland's Cross. For safety reasons, with tighter lanes and no hard shoulder, I would agree. Instead go in via City West.

From there head to Tallaght, Harold's Cross then into the city center.

Exit N7 at kingswood (junction 2), and take r136 over to the n81 (tallaght) or
exit at junction 3 and take n62 over to n81, not much in the difference, then through tallaght harold's cross, city center

Are you cycling all the way to Croke park? Dunno if I'd be happy leaving the bike around the area on match day. Totally your call of course.

I'd actually take the R136 over to the N4. It's the same road as far as Heuston station with a lot less traffic lights then the N81 route. Straight down the quays to O'Connell street and you can decide where to go from there.

I used to cycle in to the Dublin games a lot in Croke Park. Park your bike on Mountjoy square on the east side of it. All travelling coaches will be parked there and the drivers tend to stay there during the game so unlikely to get interfered with. I would definitely not travel with a quick release saddle... as it will go missing quickly. Sufficient lock for the frame and both wheels will see you just fine through the game. I even used to lock my helmet to it as well, never an issue.

+1 for that. It'll mean you won't have to cross the city from Terenure. You could also go a little further north and get to the canal path which would bring you right under Croke Park.

Alternatively exit the N7 at kingswood and travel on the link road parallel to the N7, go into Clondalkin and cycle out Monastery Rd which brings you back onto the N7 at the Red Cow, the Red Cow junction is easy to negotiate from here as you have already passed the slip road for the M50, from there its straight into town.

This is the route that will add the least amount onto your journey and it is fairly straight forward. If you want more detailed directions PM me and I will let you know

I think the N4 route is a good idea....

Yeah i'd turn off after citywest exit on N7, it's the outer ring road over to lucan and in via the N4 down towards heuston station and then cross the quays at island bridge.
