Does anyone know if the Wildlife Act 2000 has been repealed / amended to allow duck hunting from outboard engine powered boats? Seen 2 boats on local midland lakes today and in one case watched a firing party of 3 fire on and shoot down a duck from a moving boat alongside a reed bed . In the second case, different area of the lake , a boat with 2 guys standing, guns at the ready, as the boat cruised along a wooded shoreline. I understood shooting from engine powered craft wasn't allowed ?

Might be better asking in the hunting forum? Or maybe PM one of their mods and ask? They seem to have a good grasp of the law in relation to shooting

Ont know about it being illegal to shoot from a moving boat but it is clearly stupid and dangerous to do so aswell.
First day of duck season and every clown will be out shooting.
    Most lads avoid opening day

Have looked into the matter further online - This is what Section 44 of the Wildlife (Amendment) Act 2000 says on the subject :
    (1) Notwithstanding anything contained in this Act apart from this section, a person shall not hunt or disturb for the purpose of hunting—

    (a) any wild animal by means of a mechanically-propelled vehicle, vessel or aircraft, whether it is being so propelled or is stationary,

    (b) any wild bird by means of such a vehicle, vessel or aircraft, while it is being so propelled.

    (2) Notwithstanding subsection (1) of this section, a mechanically-propelled vehicle, vessel or aircraft may be used to capture or kill, pursuant to and in accordance with a licence granted in that behalf by the Minister and for such educational, scientific or other purposes as are specified in the licence, wild birds or wild animals of a species so specified.

Seems fairly clear cut to me , unless this legislation has been amended. I've posted in the shooting forum for clarification.

Might be an idea to phone the relevant NPWS officer for the area, and tell them which lake this is occurring on. List here.
