    Hi,

Quick question guys.. I'm travelling to London @ the weekend to visit friends and will be VERY tight on time flying out so we may not get a chance to get a couple of bottles of booze for friends..can inbound passengers buy duty free at a UK airport? Gatwick specifically..
It's something I've never tried to do?

    Cheers!

There is no duty free in the EU at either end, you'd be better going to Asda.

    Thanks for replying
    I Should have phrased differently..
Can I access the shopping area as an inbound passeenger to Uk?
I realise once I'm not going outside EU duty free doesn't apply.
We're being met by friends and would like to have a couple of bottles bought rather than go looking afterwards.

No you won't be able to access duty free arriving into the airport. They might sell bottles on the plane but I'm not 100% correct. You would be better getting them in a supermarket to be safe.

It's the last thing before you enter the arrivals hall in the South Terminal. You can't miss it and it's always been open when I've travelled to Gatwick.

    .
Stanstead also have a shop just before you reach the arrivals hall. Have never bought anything so can't say if it's reasonably priced.

If you have the space why not just buy them at Dublin duty free but pay full price?

That's only an option if they have separate bottles on which excise was paid when they left the distillery. It used to be the case that you could buy duty-paid cigarettes, they were parchment-wrapped and normally not on display so you had to ask for them at a counter, not sure if they still do those.

It's not an option for them to simply charge more based on where the passenger is heading to, they need to have separate stock for people prepared to pay full price.
