    Hi,

This is my 3rd post of issues in as many weeks! :(

Driving on the motorway today and the engine malfunction light comes on. I pulled over and turned off the engine and started it up again, no error, drive felt fine.
Drove another 10 miles with no problems, on my return journey it came in again just as I passed 3000 rpm, so again I stopped the car and restarted the engine, no error. So I drove on for 5 miles more with no issue and deliberately pushed it to 3000 rpm and then bingo comes on again, repeated the process once more and same behaviour. So seems to be fairly consistent.

I put the car into self diagnostics mode and I didn't see any dtc error code.

    Any ideas ?

You haven't gone over 2000 rpm in two weeks?
Engine management light could be a million things, it doesn't come on for no reason.
You would have to get the stored fault codes read or, if none show up, wait till the error appears and drive to a garage and have the code read as its live.
Otherwise its just guessing at the issue.
Or get an obd dongle and diagnostic software, but I found Ford software hard to find even on the dodgier sites.

The most common reason for this on a 1.8tdci Focus of that year would be that the 90 degree boost hose going onto the intake manifold has split. Should be very easy to spot if you take a look.

It's true, it happened to me (06 CMax 1.8 TDCI 115 hp), but this was also accompanied by huge cloud of smoke under acceleration and indicated fuel consumption of 32 mpg.

Big hose on the drivers side of the engine bay. The hose usually splits at the rear of the bend.

    Just an update.

Haven't noticed any crack in the pipe. I've pushed it up to 2500 rpm and no warning light. Will post back if I see the issue again and follow on diagnosis.

Did you notice increase in MPG and decrease in smoke?

Just got the verdict this morning from Ford so hoping the MPG will improve. I didn't notice any smoke before the issue but I did notice a drop off in MPG.
