Yesterday I let my Nokia ( 625 ) update itself when prompted.

No crash, no drama ( for all I know nothing at all ) & after around 15 minutes and a couple a restarts it was all over.

Can anyone tell me what this update does for the phone ?

( I check for updates every few days so its not as if it was an old update )

If you are the 8.1 update, it probably added support for folders on the home screen.

Any idea if you were running 8.0 in the first place?

...is your device in the Dev Preview programme?

Lots of things. Smaller and more tiles on the home screen. A pull-down notification panel to give quick access to functions like bluetooth, wifi, location. Gives you a separate FM radio app if the phone is equipped. Independent control of alert sounds and their volume so decreasing one so it's muted won't stop the phone from ringing, etc, etc.

It's not available to the general public yet.

That was already in the previous update, I got one the other day as well.

Yes, app developers get access to updates a couple of months in advance.

If the OP is only running 8.1 now then they would not have the folders feature as it's party of 8.1 Update 1.

(to check which version you have, go to Settings > About and look for either "Windows Phone 8.1" or "Windows Phone 8.1 Update")

    Thanks for replies.

    W.R.T phone :

Phone is unlocked ( ex CPW )

    Already on 8.1

    Not on dev preview

Then I'd say it's just an update that doesn't bring any new features that you can see.
