For your husband - I find that American shirts have longer sleeves than their European equivalents so if he's like me and in the zone between M(edium) and L(arge) for casual shirts and sweatshirts, you'll find that an 'L' shirt in the US will have longer sleeves so unless he's over 6' tall, you'd really need to stick with size 'M'. I discovered this a few years ago when Gant and Hilfiger shirts arrived in Ireland, I bought size 'L' and the cuffs were over my hands!

If you're in any doubt, get a measuring tape and measure his sleeve length, bring that with you and make sure you're buying the right size.

Measuring tape and a bit of paper with 'ideal' measurement of clothes for each kid and your husband is probably best.

You would really want to check them over here for how each brand is sized first to get an idea. I find in the US the sizes are around half a size larger for shirts and tops.

I always find US sizes bigger than our UK/EU ones, unless it's designer. Measuring clothes sound like a good idea to get around the guesswork involved.
