A3 sport central locking issue

    Hi all,

My girlfriend recently bought a 2004 A3 sport, 2.0tdi, its an excellent car and were very happy with it.
It has the auto locking function (which i dont like) but anyway. last week my girlfriend sat into the car to clean the inside, had her phone and keys in the house. the door swung closed which was fine until about 20 seconds later the car locked its self. And it applied the safe locks/double locks. which meant basically she couldnt get out. to make a long story short she tried everything you can imagine to get out but no luck. she was almost 3 hours stuck in the car (i wasnt due bak until the following night) she tried to bend out the top of door and eventualy managed to get the jack and break the window. needless to say she was in a bad state afterwards, and was covered in cuts and bruises from cinbing out through the glass.

sorry for the long post but I have 2 questions,
    1. Why would this happen.???? I have tested it since and it will lock itself when the keys are both in and out of the car and a few times it has applied the safelocks aswell.

    2. is there any point in me contacting audi about this, not to complain but just to make them aware. because this is a very serious issue, luckily my girlfriend only has minor injuries but was still off work for a few days and is still very shook. but if this was an elderly or a sick person this could be potentially fatal.

    any help apprecited.

Did she get in the driver's seat, or a passenger seat?

If you open the driver's door it should disable the auto locking, but I never trust that.

I'm almost certain you can double tap the inside driver side door opener and it should open. The system should be disabled if the driver side door is opened once the car is unlocked. At least thats my experience with Audi / VW. I'd definitely query it though.

Any VAG I've had you could either press the button or pull the door handle twice to open it.

    Possibly a faulty switch maybe?

Once the deadlock is engaged the handles do not operate from the inside.
Or at least this was the case on my Octavia.

When doing anything in the car I always leave the window open.
