    Hey guys,
Headin back to the states long term, have an iPhone 4S with O2, what's the story with using it over there with a US Sim? Also, anyone recommend a place to help with my " software " issue?

    Much appreciated

Is your contract up with O2 then they can unlock it to any network. You will be only able to use it on AT&T or T Mobile network in the states as Verizon,Sprint, Metro PCS use CDMA and not GSM.

    Thanks.

I have another 6 months left on the contract but the Bast*rds want €300 to buy it out.

Whats the worst that can happen?

I remember before I got a contract on a phone and just couldn't opt out.so o ended up having to stay with the supplier a contract is a contract i .guess.if your leaving forever you'll probably get away with it. I don't know how 02 are for long distance but my brother held on to his irish phone in oz as he could ring home all he wanted with no extra charge.also apple gear is cheaper over there so the 300 would probably get you an upgrade at least a used iPhone 5

Can you not unlock the iPhone without exiting your contract?

I know it's the provider that unlocks it .not manufacturer so I'd be superseded bud

There's a link on the o2 website for unlocking them, give it a shot

Jailbreak it and unlock it. Simple enough.
