Grange Castle membership options

Hi all, looking for a bit of advice regarding membership options at Grange Castle.

Currently on the site, the reduced rates of 570 & 210 are for membership until March 2015, so I am assuming that the form hasn't been updated since the offer went live. If so, if I were to join when would the membership run to?

Crunching some numbers (assuming the deals stay as they are currently and green fee rates also) for the same money as full membership I could join on the pay and play and play 23ish times, or just pay 24ish green fees (obviously no h/cap and competitions in that option). I would like to get out at least once a weekend and I would say most weeks I would be able to provided the weather is decent so I would hope to get at least 30 rounds a year in.

With them figures paying the full membership seems the most attractive option, however, purely money wise, any week not spent at the course would seem like a waste of money, particularly if I were to pay a green fee for a casual round elsewhere.

    So my three main questions are;

    1. How long would membership run to if I were to join now?
    2. Is there a big penalty for the flexible payment plan? Would the 600/year go from 50/month to 60+ perhaps?
    3. And finally, what option would you yourself be most likely to go for?

Link to the membership options to at least see what they are :)http://www.grangecastlegc.com/members-area/

1 - membership finishing date won't change. The year goes March - March in grange castle, so the current deal brings you up to the end of next club year.
2 - not 100% on the flexible pay option. I think you pay a chunk up front & the balance is split into monthly payments. Again I assume it'll mean you have to pay the lot by March next year, so it might impact what the monthly payment is.
3 - depends on how much you'll actually get out. Problem is you are joining into the winter months so not necessarily guaranteed to get there every week. The one thing about GC is that it does stay open & have 18 hole comps almost year round. Pay & play might be worth considering through to 2015 then if you like it then you go for the all in package for the following season?

sorry to hijack your thread op.

I just had a quick question about membership for clubs.

Why should one became a member of a club? what are pro's?

they have reduced their rates further again. It is now 155 for pay per play
    450 for full membership

Looking for some info from Grange Castle members - one of the green keeping staff has moved to St Margarets so I was wondering what sort of condition the course was in this year, greens especially?

Greens came on leaps and bounds imo.
I'm only a member 2 years but there was a big improvement this year.
Not just the surface but they also introduced a few aprons which made a big impact on how the hole played / looked.

General condition was an improvement on last year.
They did cut back a fair bit of rough on a few holes however. It sped up the rounds but personally I think they made an open course even more open by doing so.

The level of work at Grange Castle greatly increased after Synergy took over from SDCC. In a very short space of time the improvements were very visible both on and off the course.

    Tee Boxes resown where required.
Fairways were better shaped as a result of better rough management.
Bunkers improved but there is more work planned over winter to bring them up to standard
Greens were quite good and hopefully with the increased maintenance this will result in more improvements
Clubhouse was refurbished and there are plans to continue this in 2015.
The practice 7 holes were really brought up to scratch and this is an excellent option for warming up.
Car-park and overgrown areas around course tidied up.

    Negatives

Fairways are still too open and this suits big hitters that can be a bit wild
Should be more penal so as to reward straight hitters down the middle.

The back tee (Blue) get used for all comps which shouldn't be the case imho.
I would suggest that this only get used for Major Comps and Monthly Medals as this would help maintain the condition of the Tee Box. The course is long enough off the Whites for most members.

There needs to be Ball Cleaner Stations (correct term ???) around the course

Toilet facilities whilst out on course and access to drinking water would also be desirable.

As a member I'm quite happy at the progress being made but it needs to continue to happen.

Part of that move may well have been an enforced one BigChap. When synergy took over, basically all of the groubgs keeping staff were replaced by their own team.

They have put in a lot of good work this year, and the greens have been in very good condition by comparison to previous years.

What the other guys have said is correct, they have put a lot of work in & added definition to the fairways, but they've also widened then & they were arguably too wide already. I assume this is to speed up play, especially with the level of society traffic they receive on Saturdays.

How many members are there in grange castle? I played with a few of your club mates in the junior cup this year and they were very competetive. Nice guys too. Im thinking about joining next year..would like to know how busy the timesheet tends to be?

600 plus as far as I know. No issue getting out during qualifying season but can be a little harder during the curtailed hours of winter. You do have to be quick when the time sheet opens on BRS

To be fair the club have introduced new 11 hole comps alongside the regular 18 hole comps at weekend to provide extra slots which seems to be a positive help.
