    Hi All,

I am currently in full time employment in a permanent job but living 2.5 hours away from all my friends, family and boyfriend. I am nearly 7 years in my job and really feel like the time has come to move. All my friends have moved and truth be told the couple of people I am friendly here its just a convenience thing.

I am going out with my boyfriend for 9 months and have never been as sure abiut anyone in all my life. I really want to relocate home and move in together. I am in contract with work so have to stay there until March is it will be nearly a year and a half then. Is that too soon?

Also am I mad to give up a good full time job on the hope that there might be something out there? I know the future isn't certain but any advise would be appreciated.

Between now and march you have plenty of time to look for something else for work!

There's never really a right time to move. Myself & my OH moved to London 7 years ago & we'd been going out less than a year. Did some research & picked a date. Now we're moving to Scotland. Both of us left permanent employment & again did our research & picked a date, based on little more than we want to & it feels like a good time to move.

I would suggest doing your homework before you go, research job opportunities, rental options, visas if needed. Also you will almost certainly need a lump sum to get you up & running (how much depends on where you're going). Enjoy it, relocating is a lot of work but it's also a hell of a lot of fun :)

    Hi OP,

I've moved your thread to Personal Issues. I think you'll get better answers here :)

    Best of luck,

    Lucy.

I think you should start jobhunting. Don't just leave the job you have for nothing if that can be avoided. You can move in with your boyfriend any time. You still have to put bread on the table and it is easier to find a job when you're already working.

Ya no move will be made until I have a job in place. I suppose change can be good and we are both every excited about it.

I suppose I just feel comfortable here in my job but I would like to move on and try something new. 7 years is enough and there is no position to grow further here.

Any time you change jobs it's a risk. Boyfriend or no boyfriend, it looks like you've gotten to the stage where you could do with a change but are understandably feeling nervous about the step into the unknown. At some stage you're going to leave this job anyway. It's just that you've now got a reason for it. As for the timing of moving in with your boyfriend, do what feels right for you. There are no set rules. At least if you're not 2½ hours away you can give the relationship a real chance. Good luck, both with the jobhunting and with the move ;)
