hi lads, trying to resurrect my old toyota on a budget - mostly done now but did a repair to the broken exhaust and wondering will it pass NCT -

it broke after the silencer and i tried to weld it but my arc welder was too hot for it and just melted it - so i got a piece of another exhaust slightly narrower diameter - slipped it inside and it was snug into the silencer, wedged it in there good, and i clamped it on the pipe side - was a slight blow on pipe side so i tapped it with aluminium tape - no more leaks and its very silent

i know its a complete bodge, but whats the chances of it passing the test?

sagging a bit in the photo but i have strapped it up since with a metal band

Some exhaust cement on the pipe going inside probably would of sealed it up good.

The NCT isn't a Beauty pageant so once it's sealed & secure I'd imagine it will pass. I recently put a clamp-on flexi on a golf, took lots of exhaust cement and two clamps on one end to seal. Sailed through the NCT, nothing was said.

i had tried cement and didnt seal for long (before the pipe insert) but now that you say it i could strip off the tape, lather it up with cement and then retape once set. tape is only to stop a slight blow.

might be no harm to spray it matt black...it does stand out a bit.

Would it not burn or melt when they bring the engine up to temperature during the test and drawing more attention to it ?
