Hi I'm starting first year in Law with Politics and I don't know what electives to choose?? I'm interested in doing Italian but is it better to do the Law-related electives? I mean I'm going to be studying law 90% of the time I feel like I could do with a break from it and I haven't even started yet

The choice is go deeper or broad really. It may aid your studies if you go deeper as in choosing modules within your discipline as they are interrelated. Be careful when choosing outside your field as you are studying something completely new which May have little in common with law. Simple things like a different assignment writing style in say history to law can cause frustration and time consuming effort to learn.
Fwiw I always try to go deeper in my programme (law) even though I may be choosing electives that are "less easier" than others I could have picked. I figure I am studying law so why not gain as much legal knowledge as I can while in ucd. It can only help in my preferred career of solicitor/barrister.
