At some stage, I have to bring over some items in my car to a friend who has moved to the UK. There's no particular restriction on when I go, day of the week or time of day.

Outside holiday periods, are the fares much of a muchness, or are there times/days when they are cheaper?

Book well in advance mid week, I booked last minute from Pembroke to Rosslare one-way this year and it cost me €210 one way. I was importing a car which I hadn't even bought so couldn't exactly book in advance. So if you are flexible book early and maybe checkout the special offers and sales etc.

The evening sailings ex Ireland and the early morning ex UK (2-3 am services) are usually more expensive so leave Ireland in morning and return form UK in afternoon. There is usually a minimum of 40 euro in the difference 20 each way on most routes.

Actually got an email from Irish Ferries this morning saying they have a 20% off sale on at the minute. Book by 4 Sep and travel up to Jan 2015.

Depending how far away they are from the ferry port, you could do it on a motorist day trip. About 200 return.

They're in Birmingham. I'd rather do an overnight than make it unpleasant.

I would nearly be tempted to take another day and drive down and see the war memorial at the Tower of London before they take it down. It looks extraordinary in photos.

Ok. Gonna explain it, you can decide if its any good.

Irish ferries let you go out and then return on the first sailing after 24 hours of your ARRIVAL in the uk. So.... Depart 8.30 at night, arrive at midnight in HH. First sailing 24 hours from the midnight is your latest one.

Stena want you to return before 24 hours of departure (I think)

I use these deals for trips to Liverpool.

I booked my next trip in September out on a Wednesday from Rosslare 20.45 and back the following Wednesday from Pembroke Dock at 14.45 for €156.80 booked 6 weeks in advance with a 20% discount offer.

Wow thats cheap. So cheap, I wonder if you made a mistake somewhere! I assume its a car and one person ?

Thats right, car and one person, its always cheaper if you book over 4 weeks in advance and I had a 20% off link sent by email.

If you check the outbound Rosslare to Pembroke sailing prices over Wednesday night Thursday morning then you will find they are the cheapest of any sailing.

The return trip wasn't the cheapest available but still one of the cheaper fairs and the most convenient return time for me.
