Server 2011 Problem with Task Scheduler

A task which has run for many years (since server 2000 days), since two days ago fails to complete. It just shows as running well after the time Task Scheduler should have terminated it because of over run.

It transfers data from an SQL data base to Sage. It logs what it has transferred with an end of processing entry before resetting a flag on the database to indicate it has finished and exits.

The task log shows it has completed the processing.

The problem lies with Task Scheduler as running the task from the run command under the same user account as it runs under Task Scheduler it runs fine and completes in less than a minute.

The task scheduler log file does not seem to be being updated. (The date last modified is July)

Has anyone here experienced this and found a solution that works?

What's the syntax of the command that you're running in Task Scheduler? Is it possible that a recent patch has caused the problem? (I noticed an out-of-band patch a couple of days ago and at the time it was offered couldn't access the Microsoft KB page describingnwhat the patch does...)

It's Just the full path to the exe the sql server name and the database name are the additional parameters.

It's running on a clients machine I just provided the software to transfer the data from the one system to the other.

It's not critical more an inconvenience as someone now has to periodically click on a shortcut on their desktop to effect the transfer.

Is the task still scheduled to run whether the user is logged on or not?

The other option you could try is scripting it up in a batch file and calling the batch file in the scheduled task.

Thanks Fysh, took your advice and put it in a bat file and called the bat file in task scheduler.

It's completely illogical but that's Windows!
