Seen it in the leaflets I usually start a fire with was wondering if anyone else is considering buying one or if it would do the job

Anybody get one yet, any good? I wonder would it work on straw or grain with a little modification? I have timber boards racked since last year and it would be interesting to see how dry/wet it is.

Got mine earlier, tried it on some seasoned firewood i have( which i know from using neighbours meter is seasoned) and its coming up around 18%. Green alder jst cut and split last week showing around 35% so id be happy enough with results so far

Thanks OP for the heads up. Bought one and beech cut and racked earlier this summer is 26% and similiar timber sawn at the same time and not racked is 35%

larch sawn last year is between 22 and 25% and old stakes in a shed is 15%

The best way to test would be to chop a log in half and test the middle/freshly exposed wood rather than surface which dries first. I noticed that the further in the probes go, the higher the moisture.

Picked mine up today it will be very handy for knowing when timber is ready to burn

Easy to use as well

The results vary though if I put the prongs slightly into the timber I get a lower reading than if I put the full length of the Tongs into the timber means that you can manipulate results

Fresh stuff was about 40%

Stuff cut and split and put on a drying floor three months ago was ~22%

And stuff from last year was about 15%

Also just for the lols I stuck it into the barley we have stored in the shed was coming up with 15% which is close to what it was in the samples done in a proper machine
