Quick question for anyone, own a corolla its insured till june 2015 nct till january it won`t make it through next nct. i have third party fire and theft and i am insured to drive any car that`s not in my name. Girlfriend has a Yaris that`s in her name not insured, and i rang insurance company to get insurance changed onto her car guy said rather than incur costs with admin fees im insured to drive any car i asked did i not need to display a insurance disk on the yaris while driving he said i didn`t. Thought you could get done by the guards for not displaying insurance, tax and nct disks on car at all times.
    Thanks

There are a number of RTA issues here but I'm not getting into those, since you seem to be aware that you are obliged to display the correct discs on the relevant cars.

Why won't the Corolla pass the NCT?

Under body of the car is basically eaten with rust had to replace fuel pipe latelyas it developed a hole in it, it scraped by on the last nct which really it shouldnt have as you could put your finger through some parts of the car. But they didn`t fail it on them so i got another year out of it. Why would insurance company tell me its ok to drive it without the cert?

You would be insured to drive the car but still liable to get a ticket for failing to display the insurance disc. It's just very risky. If you ever got stopped in the Yaris, even though you're insured to drive it, you have not got the disc displayed. Even if you take the disc from the Corolla and put it in the Yaris, the Gardaí can check the insurance DB and will spot that the policy doesn't pertain to the Yaris and issue a fine.

Also, your insurance cert might not necessarily prove that you're insured on the Yaris. I've raised this question before because I am insured to drive any other car as well but when I asked my insurer what would happen if stopped in another car and asked to produce, they didn't really know. Basically, it's an awful lot of potential trouble just to avoid a few euro in admin fees. You can try and negotiate with them to waive the admin fees since in most cases, those fees are discretionary.
