Christ, the back wall will be bidding like a divil so :)

Think it great if it stops the polling.

Ya. Its a gutsy move seeing marts only started accepting debit/credit cards in recent times. I think it can only improve things. You can now watch and bid from your phone, handy if you cant get to the mart

Yeah it's a great idea. Sure there is another online place starting up.

    Brilliant..
I'm presuming there will be a live stream to be watching stock in the ring?? If / when this goes live I'll be interested in seeing it...

Now they just have to figure how to attach the stock to an email for sending them out :p

Seems like a great idea. Especially if you can't stand being at a mart like me!

Better idea than that website for auctioning animals.
At least you are sure the weight and image is accurate

A good idea and will help lads keep an eye on the trade

How could you judge cattle properly on a computer screen??Cant see it catching on

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,921 ✭✭✭onyerbikepat

I think it is a great idea but more so for keeping an eye on the trade than actually buying on line.
    This comes to mind.

In theory it sounds good.....but how are they going to know you're a genuine buyer who will pay the bill?
Do people have to register in advance or something?

WILL BE INTERESTING TO SEE HOW IT WORKS THEY WOULD NEED ALOT OF DIFFERENT CAMERAS AT DIFFERENT ANGLES AND U COULD HAVE GOOD CRACK WITH A FAKE ONLINE BIDDER OR GHOST BIDDER UPPING THE PRICE ON SOMEONE ,WHEN DOES IT START ??

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,748 ✭✭✭ganmo

or be sitting at the back of the ring bidding away with nobody else the wiser

I wonder if this comes up when you're the winning bidder online....

Would suit a lad who is selling cattle and who can't hang around probably more than buyers. We usually have to bring calves early to the mart and then head back again for sale. This system would be pretty handy in that regard to watch.

I'd say you have to pre fund an account, something similar to the online place.

    Good move,
    But I always thought a PDF report a day or two later even showing;

    Breed
    Age
    No owners
    Weight
    Price

    For all animals sold.

Why can't they make this available,
I'd think this would be great to get a view on the over all picture

I'd imagine that you'd have to register some sort of an account with the mart first, or submit bank details in advance - I doubt that anyone could jump in and bump up prices.

Handy though once you had registered - even if you're not bidding you could get a feel for cattle and prices if you had an hour to spare at home - just put on the kettle and crank up the laptop.

Does anyone know when it starts

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 14,241 ✭✭✭✭Kovu

2nd September I think it says online, you also have to register first and get a password and sign in code.

Wonder how they'll manage it in the office, last time I was there they weren't that up to speed with technology.

Kay9 it wouldnt open on my samsumg, i contacted the helpdesk and i was informed it will be a few weeks until it works on android but should work on iphone.watched last hour on laptop.even though picture wasnt that big you could distinguish between the good and beter stock but it would be near impossible to judge the weight.there was also a few bids placed online but not sure if they were successful. ...

Can't stand places that drag out the bidding doing that, was in castle island once, they bid up quick, stop at low price, auctioneer looks into box, then annouces he wants more money, goes on another €50 or so looks into box again, she's on the market, and on another €50 or so again, arseing if I ever seen it IMO

Marjority of places I go, just keep bidding till bids get slow and just say on the market, go on a few more bids then ask owner if they want to sell, hammer then if so

Sadly round here, start reasonable, go very low, then bidders go for a while stop to see if seller will bite, then possibly go again & so on, or stop & hold out for seller to accept lottery of "on the market", which can rise lots or €0

Jeez, just had a look on-line there now. Video is working fine. How are the bids detected by the software? Is it voice detection?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 448 ✭✭Seaba

Modern technology eh?! Just had a peep myself. Very good. On the laptop, excellent picture.
I'd want to be there in person if I was judging/buying say a heifer suitable for breeding but for buying stores/non-breeding animals it works very well.

I watched there for a while. A lot of 'Internet' bidders. ;)

Think its taking the craic out of meeting people at the mart, also to hard to judge cattle on a screen ,not my cup of tea ,I like the chat

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 25 williemakeit

Congratulations to mayo sligo mart on the introduction of this. The pre sale camera is an added bonus even though it makes cattle look bigger. I wonder is there any future plans to have the option of watching the other ring and making the system compatible with android phones.

Downloaded the app in the phone but Tis not working the best, had the video for about 20 seconds and this is all in getting now.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,921 ✭✭✭onyerbikepat

:D They have a second camera over the scales, as cattle come in.
Much better view of the animal.
    Click on 'Pre Sale Camera'.
