The 06 has the more reliable M47 engine, it's also a one owner car with plenty of service history.

The 08 has the less reliable N47 engine that can suffer from timing chain issues. Unless it's already been changed then budget to have it replaced along with the glides.

might go and look at them tomorrow, if the timing chain has been done on the 08 is that the only major issue? also should I be worried by 130k plus miles on the 06?
    thanks

Only for the chain the N47 would be more reliable than the older M47 engine.

Make sure on the 06 that the turbo breather filter is the newer vortex shaped one and there is no sign of gunk around it as this was a problem where it got blocked and starved the turbo of oil which resulted in killing the turbo. Manifold swirl flaps should also have been replaced with blanks by now as this is another problem with the 06 engine. If they are not removed then get them removed as these flaps can break off and kill the engine. Also make sure there are no warning lights on the dash, common fault is the ABS/TC warning on dashboard is lit up like a Christmas tree because of either a faulty ABS wheel sensor or worse the ABS module is goosed.

130000 miles is not huge mileage on a nearly 9 year old diesel saloon, the fact that it has a service history and only had 1 owner since new would be a huge plus for me. As it's a manual just make sure that there is no vibration/judder through the clutch as this could mean that the flywheel is on it's way out as you will be looking at the bones of €1k for a new clutch and flywheel, these generally are not covered under warranty as they are classed as consumables.
