"Play to" option windows 8

Not sure which forum this belongs in:

Up until a few days ago, i was able to right click on a film, on laptop, select "play to" option & play to my smart tv.

Now the "play to" option is not showing on any film or music??

Both my laptop & tv are on the same wireless network and both are connected.

Any suggestions on how I can fix this??

Disable Windows Media Player, Restart the PC and Re-Enable it.

Ok tried that and "play to" option has appeared when I right click.
The tv showed up & tried to connect.
After a few minutes saying "connecting network device" an error comes up "unexpected device error" the TV then says "file format is not supported"
TV is an lg. the file format is mp4 and I've watched said film before on tv??

Any other ideas?

should i reset the whole laptop & hope the default settings will get it working again?

Sorry, forgot to reply.

You could try doing a system restore to a time before it started happening, and see if that makes a difference.
