    Hi,
    Sorry if this thread subject has already been discussed, but i can't find anything doing a quick search;
    My 'pink' drivers license expired over 3 months ago (4 months, to be exact) and I am about to renew it. I heard from a work colleague that unofficially you have 6 months to renew before you need to take you drivers theory and start afresh, L plates etc. Is this time frame correct, or are ndls quite strict and send you back to L plate school if the 3 months grace has expired?
    any comments are appreciated.
    thanks

    You might find a better answer in motors if you asked there!

    Or ask your friend google:
    http://www.citizensinformation.ie/en/travel_and_recreation/motoring_1/driver_licensing/renewing_a_full_driving_licence.html

    It appears you can renew from 3 months before expiry up to 10 years afterwards:
    You are entitled to apply to renew your driving licence if:
    You hold a driving licence that will expire within 3 months
    You held a driving licence that expired less than 10 years ago

    Your friend is talking through his hat. You have up to 10 years to renew before you need to start from scratch again.

    As others have said your friend is talking through his hat. My licence expired last december and i was able to renew it 2 weeks ago with no problems.

    As often happens, the 'know-all' at work (more often they're sitting on a high stool) is talking BS, it was always 10 years.
