Dark Wood is an entirely 2D Survival Horror / Roguelike / Crafting game.
Think of "7 Days To Die" (but with actual scares and tension) with huge atmosphere, foreboding, and desperation.
This game refuses to hold your hand and is very unforgiving, even on normal mode (which removes permadeath in place of durability loss, XP loss, and destruction of XP gaining 'mutated' items) though not in a frustrating way.

If the 'friendly' NPC's don't creep you out, the creatures warbling / moaning / grunting in the dark certainly will - And failing that, you have the day/night cycle and vision impairing weather to worry about. It's not long before you find yourself cowering in the corner of your fortified base, listening to creatures battering at your door as you pray for morning to come.

DarkWood is unique in that anything outside of your peripheral vision (outside of regular things such as (most) terrain) is completely invisible. You will not see a threat unless looking directly at it or which is not in your cone of vision - And even hearing them in advance won't always be a fail-safe. Barks, moans, or even the sound of twigs crackling under your feet will have you spinning around frantically to check for creatures looking to nibble your giblets - And that's just during the day. At night, you'll have the pleasure of listening to things creaking on the floorboards of the rooms of your house. Making sound WILL attract them, so keeping still might ensure they lose interest and shuffle off if they've not seen you through your own windows... Or, they may decide to bash down the barricade anyway to have a peek. Either way, it's a tense experience if you've not prepared for it by bringing a light-source, or have no fuel for your generator.

Will you choose to perform the menial tasks of the creepy locals, or batter them upside the head with a wood-axe before ransacking their home? They all have their secrets, so how you go about discovering them is down to you.

Definitely enjoying this game so far - And it could so easily be expanded on over the course of the pre-release to become even better. A very polished game as it is thus far.

Here's the second segment of the 'intro' starring me. Normally it can be completed in about 2mins, but as a first timer, some may take a while to learn that doors are sometimes hidden behind pushable wardrobes :p
This doesn't even represent the core of the gameplay, which is all about fending for yourself in the horrible world, scavenging, building, and a WHOLE lot of running.

Generated a lot of interest when I mentioned it. Since I don't play early access I will rely on you for feedback :). Looks great though.

Looks like a flash game you'd find on Newgrounds.

Infact it looks remarkably similar to one on it... just can't recall the name, inside some mine or something... and the science team there was massacred by some creatures.
