I am currently on illness benefit with severe arthritis in my right knee. I am waiting on an assessment also from the social welfare doctors as I was claiming JSA

I was at my consultant yesterday and he is planning to do a Knee osteotomy after testing the knee with a brace. If I am in hospital will this affect my illness or other benefits

No, Illness Benefit is what you should be claiming as you're not available for work. As long as you continue to send in your certs you're ok.

As for other benefits your medical card wouldn't be affected. For rent supplement or fuel allowance you are considered to be living at your permanent address while you are having medical treatment in hospital provided your hospital stay is less than 13 consecutive weeks.
