Amazon is taking a page out of Netflix’s book for the launch of their next original series.
The e-commerce giant has announced that they will launch the first season of Transparent on Amazon Prime Instant Video in the United State and the United Kingdom on Friday September 26th, when all ten episodes will be made available to subscribers at once.

How is there not more discussion about this show?

It's easily the best show to come from the new wave of content producers in my opinion. Probably as good as anything I've seen in recent years regardless of whether it's online only, network or premium cable TV.

I loved the pilot when I saw it back at the start of the year and the further 9 episodes exceeded all expectations.

There's some fantastic performances in there. Tambor will steal a lot of the lime light but there's some excellent performances by plenty others too. Massive props to Soloway for casting certain actors in very unfamiliar roles.

Second season already confirmed which is excellent news.

    I really dislike the children

Started watching it recently, think we've watched three episodes.

Love it, some lovely dark humour, almost like Six Feet Under in tone and delivery of the tragicomic subject matter.

    Modern Family On Meth.

    Agreed!

I liked this but I did find all of the children annoying while the character of the dad was well written and acted. He was interesting, sensitive and believable and his story was revealed in a very compelling way. However at a risk of sounding prudish it annoys me the way that so often lately in these kind of dramas interesting stories are shoved aside so half of an episode can be devoted to the weird sex life of a less interesting character. It's always weird, uncomfortable to watch, does anything interesting ever happen to anyone with a normal sex life anymore?I kind of thought that the story would've been much better if it had taken place in the context of a more ordinary family where you might more easily identify with the kids or where they're coming from.
And just to be clear by "weird" I don't mean the daughter being gay at all, although that relationship evolved in a rather unbelievable way too. I'm more referring to the other daughter.

up to episode 8 now, loving it. The cinematography is superb, the music, the acting, the writing, all so good. probably my fave of 2014.

Supposed to be free on amazon today but can't get it past the 'geographical' restriction. Tried hola.

think you need to change your address too (UK or US)

  • In episode 7 so far and it's the best series I've seen in a long time. I just adore the dad. I got so invested in his character and really felt for him from the very start.
Music is so good in it too, must get the soundtrack

Why did they restrict ffs? Will just lead to more downloads. Isn't it their own production, therefore they licence the regions etc...

I am not saying that is the case but if RTE, TV3, TG4 or UTVI bought the rights to show it here then Amazon even if it there own production can't make it available here as they aren't the rights holders for this region.

Came across this show last week, I really like it. I've been looking round for a good US comedy for ages and I just can't take to any of them.

I hadn't seen Tambor in anything previous bar when he kept popping up as himself in Ari Gold's office in Entourage but he is a really good actor and makes the lead character very likeable. His kids are nuts even more so as it reveals their back stories.

    Only 2 eps to go...

Amazon Instant Video is restricted to the US, UK and a few more international territories. It only became available here in the UK less than a year ago.

It will take a while longer before they start rolling it out to the likes of Ireland as 99% of the content offered isn't theirs.

I assume offering Transparent for free is simply a way of tempting folk to sign up to the service. No point giving it to those that don't have the capability to subscribe.

I'm a couple of episodes into this and it's very good.

The children are so grating though.

Pretty good. I will say this, there's a lot of pain that family and in accordance with the rules of TV drama, stuff we've been fed in previous episodes crashes together at a funeral. Still, anything that puts Brad Whitford into a dress and wig is a good thing! :pac:

What a start to the season. What a start to the episode.

I adore this show. Now to try figure out how to not binge the whole season this day week.

Jill Soloway can do no wrong.

Enjoyed this season, although I can't help feeling it isn't actually going anywhere. I mean, I enjoyed it, but what was the point exactly??

The Berlin stuff was kinda tedious also.

    The show can be pretty..raw.

Managed to spread my viewing of the second season over 8 weeks as opposed to binge watching.

Loved it. Just as good as the first season which felt like the best tv in years.

Good to see Jeffrey Tambor pick up an Emmy.

S3 trailer. Lands on Sept 23rd.

Is there any way to legally get this in Éire? I remember watching all of S2 up until 6am one morning when I'd work at 7am and loved it! Didn't realise it was back again!

    Don't think so.

S3E01 lives up to the high standards set by the first 2 seasons. I'm going to try hard to spread out my viewing of this season as I did last year.
