My partner is currently still employed but out sick, its looking unlikely they will be able to return to their job. Can they return to education and retrain and get any financial help. We could not survive on the grant alone. The local college have said they'll take late applicants until the end of September.

Most you'd get is BTEA and free fees + some other assistance like fuel and travel allowances from financial assistance programs in the college if they have them. But BTEA comes in as just a small bit over the grant. 188 a week. And I'm not certain but I think you have to be on social welfare prior to getting it.

Pretty sure you've to be on SW for 9 months to receive BTEA

Thanks. That's a shame as we are trying to avoid going onto welfare. On btea is any allowance made for me and children?

Not that I know of, I dont think its means tested and I think the most that can be gotten is 188 a week and only that if your over 26. You can read more about it here though.
