NCT Mileage Verification?

Looking at a car at the moment that seems like it's been well looked after, owner has a lot of posts on another forum and seems like a genuine enthusiast. Service history hasn't been filled out for the last few years since he's owned it but doesn't really concern me as he's a mechanic and services it himself (evident in his forum posts) and just never bothered filling out the book.

Regarding the mileage, it was last stamped at 54k (5 years ago). The odo is currently showing 85k. He said it can be verified through the NCT. So, is it actually possible to obtain NCT reports for the last 5 years in order to verify the mileage?

You cant as a buyer. He may be able to as the registered owner.

Cartell and the like will tell you, well it'll highlight discrepancies anyway

Cartell will only tell you if it's voluntarily submitted by one of the previous owners

NCT note the recorded mileage at each NCT, Cartell have access to that database, that's why they always query my mileage as the odometer stopped working and it doesn't change from the previous test

Do Cartell have access to the database? If I spend money on a report will it give the date and mileage recorded for every NCT test it's gone through?

Last time I checked they didn't under data protection legislation. Unless they do now, but a few weeks ago it wasn't the case

I read the same here in a thread from a few years ago, sounds like nothing's changed.

My apologies I stand corrected, I thought they had access to the data by now

Cartell, etc. will only point out a mileage discrepancy if the mileage you submit doesn't match what they consider to be an average mileage (based on the year of the car). They don't even tell you this, they just say that there 'may' be a discrepancy.
The only actual mileage figures they can have is mileage figures submitted by people who are buying a report. Of course there is no way of knowing how accurate this method is. Some cars may be clocked, some people may enter a wrong figure by mistake, etc.

OP, perhaps the seller has kept all the old NCT Reports (not Certs) which would give an indication of mileage.......unless he was doing huge mileage and clocking it prior to each test :D

Regarding the OP's original question as to whether he can get the old NCT certs, I think it's the case that you can only order a replacement for the current cert, not previous certs which would now have expired.

If he doesn't have the old certs, I wonder would the seller be able to get a print out/confirmation from the NCT centre of the mileage recorded over the years when it was tested. I'm sure the info is on their system somewhere.

I think I read elsewhere that the Cartell database and the NCT database are still not fully linked and you shouldn't rely on figures before July 2013. But I'm not sure on this.

....from Cartell's own site. No mention of a database link, don't think there ever was.

AFAIK the NCT will only show the mileage 'displayed' at the time of testing on their Certs & Discs.
They are wary of selling on this info to the car check companies as they obviously cannot offer any guarantee regarding the accuracy of this information.
In other words, they would feel obliged to put a disclaimer alongside mileage figures ("mileage cannot be guaranteed" or similar) which is as good as saying 'this car may or may not be clocked'.
