Has anyone managed to increase their swing speed?
What was your improvement with the driver and how did you do it?

Usually overspeed training is what is recommended
Gonna try it myself this winter

Ah shure winter is months away yet...calm down Greebo, calm down :D

I have to say though I got a jolt when I checked an open being played 2 weeks away and the last tee time drops from 5:00 the week before to 4:20 that week.

My light, my precious light :(

Interesting, that overspeed club is basically a light driver? Do you actually hit golf balls with it or just use it as a swing aid? Could you get similar results from swinging a driver/long shaft with some weight (130 grams) attached to the bottom?

My marketing hype sensor goes into overdrive with this sort of thing but I'm still curious.

I taped a golf ball to a driver shaft and I'm going to use that. Let you know next April :D

Some lead tape would do the trick also, or a small strip of lead (like roofing lead) taped on with duct tape.

Always the danger of the golf ball getting detached and breaking something :D

Setanta have been shower those titleist performance institute shows. They had one episode with the World Long Drive Champion & were showing exercises he does to build speed & distance into his swing.

Part of it here, there is a full length episode of it though:

Thanks for the links. Yes there is lots of stuff on you-tube and the internet about increasing swing speed, but it would be interesting to hear from someone who actually made some improvement and how they did it.

Pro's havent a rashers, but ply their trade on the idea that because they can, they know how.

As true now as it was in the days of Ezekiel and Josiah : "Swing speed - you either got or you dont".

Skillz weighted driver is a great way to build swing speed. Also learning how to not waste power at the top of the back swing and grip pressure is an even better way to increase a few mph

That's very harsh on professionals, many of them are very knowledgeable, including how to increase swing speed.

It's also not precise to say you got it or you don't.

Speed comes from power, which is strength and speed combined. Increase strength, speed or both and you'll increase power.

Some of the drills described earlier where you swing a weighted club and swing a lighter club do this, the weighted club helps with strength and the lighter club is speed, but the club can't be too heavy or too light as this will interfere with swing mechanics.

As for equipment, the club pro who said go for a longer club is also correct, a longer club will give more clubhead speed, but not a massive amount, potentially only around 1mph per extra inch, the longer shaft also can lead to less centered strikes which decreases ball speed and a loss of distance and direction.

A lighter shaft can also work.

Greebo is also correct, the Happy Gilmore swing is a great way to increase speed, also helps with sequence and weight transfer. Swing-wise, improving sequence is the best way to increase speed, better sequence = more speed.
