    The Normal Heart

An AIDS play set in the early 80's takes to the big screen.
First of all this is an actors piece, there's enough meaty dialogue to keep the ensemble cast very happy.
We all know the story, gay men begin to die, the medical fraternity are slow to react, people believe it's a gay cancer of sorts.
The paranoia in the early days really comes across strongly, it's so taboo nobody wants to help or be seen to be helping.

Ruffalo is very strong as the lead but Roberts holds her own as the wheelchair bound doctor who tries to help.
I would have preferred more of a progression through the years as with The Dallas Buyers Club but this stays more rooted in the initial years & the confusion of the first victims.
I preferred it to the much more saccharine Philadelphia.

    Overall, 7.5/10
