Hi I'm planning on booking a flight to japan in the next couple of days. Long ass flights so trying to decide which airline to go with. Prices are much the same with the exception of SAS airlines who are by far the cheapest. Turkish airlines are next cheapest. Then Lufthansa, Emirates, Virgin and air France are pretty much the same.
Any recommendations?? It's a long trip so we want some level of comfort and service.
    Thanks

I've flown the route with SAS before, and it was perfectly fine. Entertainment systems weren't the most up to date but the food (on the long haul portion) wasn't bad.

Turkish are a pretty good airline too, having flown to other destinations with them. Excellent food, IFE is good (and even installed on some of the aircraft that fly Dublin - Istanbul. Staff can be a bit dour but I think that's more that many aren't confident in speaking English fluently.

I'd have no problem choosing either.

I like Turkish and fly with them a lot. But if they're about the same price I'd go with SAS purely because it's a much shorter flight time.

Never flown Emirates but they just won airline of the year and have the best IFE apparently. I've always found Virgin to be good. I'd base it on the type of aircraft and stopover times as well as the company.

Having just taken 4 short haul flights with SAS recently, their standard of service was very decent. Free tea and coffee for all passengers and kids got stickers and a card game. A good airline.

If you're considering Turkish Airlines to Tokyo, take a look at signing up to Aegean Airlines Miles & Bonus program. There's a 1k miles sign-up bonus and you'll bag Star Alliance Silver after only 4k.

Best of all though, you'll achieve Star Alliance Gold after just 20,000 miles and there's no requirement to re-qualify every 12 months - so you'll have gold status for 3 years.

I've done BA a couple of times to Narita & Lufthansa just the once.

Found the BA flights a more pleasant experience overall.
