I was just wondering if someone coming into 5 year Med after doing first year in another course/college could make a case for not having to pay full fees as pre med is usually counted as year one in medicine?
    Just a thought..

    Hi,

Yes I did year of science in Trinity and then went into first med. I didn’t have to pay fees and was allowed to count my year of science as pre-med. You must have sat the hpat the year of entry into your science course as a requirement for this exception. My friend also did first year science in Trinity with me she however did not sit the hpat the year she was accepted into science. We both sat it while we were in science (me for the second time) and we were both offered a place in first med in NUIG. She had to pay fees for the first year however and I didn’t. Hope this helped :)

That is exactly the info I was looking for. Thanks so much. Would you imagine it would be the fees office or admissions that I would contact about this? Do you remember what you did?

I emailed the fees office about this. You have to send them proof that you have sat the hpat twice and the results that you got. It took a couple of days to get everything sorted. :)

I think they also wanted a transcript of my exam results and my modules from Trinity.

Reckon you could make a similar argument having done a non-science related course? i.e Economics into 5 year med. Did the hpat both years.

Your welcome I had a hard time trying to find information on this last year!
Em I am not sure I have only heard of people with science related courses being exempt from paying fees. Its worth a try though! Good Luck :)
