Aer Lingus cancelled our flight

Flight booked to Munich out of Cork for the start of December with our national carrier booked in April only to be told that they have cancelled with sincere apologies!!!!!!!!!!!!!!.

Heart break here right now, logistically due to family reasons planning was extremely hard and the idea of getting away for 3 1/2 days was bliss.

Had a family break to Eurodisney last year that I had to cancel due to rescheduling of the Cork Paris flight.

Should I have confidence to book in the future:confused:

I think you might just have been extremely unfortunate. Have you considered alternative routings ex Dublin perhaps?

Schedule changes is quite common with any airline if you book more than six months out :(

There are many Irish companies I would complain about, but Aer Lingus is not one of them. I have been using them for 5 to 10 trips per year in the past 10 years and only had a bad experience once which was more due to local staff at the airport in Prague (I made it to the check-in counter barely on time - 45mins before departure - and they had already closed it counter and refused to let me and other passengers check-in whereas the conformation email clearly said the cut-off was 40 minutes before departure).

With 4 young kids at home and one with extra needs it is difficult to get someone to commit to giving us a few days away. Out of Dublin adds time to an already limited time so not a great alternative.

Have always flown Aer Lingus where possible over other airlines but have been inconvenienced twice in 18 months so they don't fill me with confidence.

That's very disappointing. Were you going for the Christmas markets?
I noticed that Aer Lingus had dropped the Munich flight for the winter and it was the only way to get to the German markets from Cork. The routes out of Cork in winter are pathetic.
But if it's just a city break then either Paris or Amsterdam are still available. Amsterdam would be my choice but will be very cold but probably no more so than Munich.
Another strange thing Aer Lingus do is drop the Faro flight at the end of October so for mid-term you can fly out but can't get back to Cork? Surely they could have a flight back after the week-end.

Edit: I'm an Aer lingus fan, they are my default airline when booking.

Yes we were going for the English markets, am waiting for the disappointment to reduce and will look at other destinations.

There is ryanair from Shannon either OP to Beauvais but on either end its a bit of a treck so driving up to Dublin might be a good idea. Wish Ryanair would fly into Orly be much handier for people wanting to go to disneyland than Beauvais

How about giving the xmas markets in the likes of Krakow etc a try- Ryanair fly there from Shannon, not too far from Cork at least and cheap car parking if booked online (5 or 6 euro a day)

We're visiting the markets in both a small town and a city.
We're flying into Memmingen (Ryanair - 26 euro each) on Nov. 29th and out of Frankfurt with Lufthansa (free 23 kg bag - 85 euro each) on December 1st. Schones Wochenende train ticket (under 50 euro) between four of us to cover the train journey between the two places.

THENORTHSIDER if you are particularly interested in the Christmas markets you could consider Wroclaw in Poland. You can fly from Cork Sat & Tues with Ryanair. Very Christmassy I'd imagine.

I received my third notification today from aer lingus of a change to my flight to Copenhagen , first the time was changed , then they moved flight from 23 to 24 , and then. Today they pushed the dept date to 25th and the return date was brought. Forward to the 26th, so instead of my original 4nights planned that leaves me with one ,which is worthless, looks like I have to cancel my hotel booking again.

I'd say this happens to people more than is ever mentioned, similar has happened to me on a couple of occasions with AL in the past
