Asking a mutual friend for a phone number

So I met a girl through a mutual friend on a night out this weekend. We got on pretty well, but I was in a bit of a mood for whatever reason and didn't ask her for her number. Thing is, I'd really like to see her again. She's gone back up to Dublin, so I can't engineer a scenario where I can bump into her for a while.

I know I'd find it a bit creepy if someone got my number through a mutual friend and then asked me out, but would that be a normal reaction?

Some people might have an issue with it, others wouldn't - that's really down to the girl in question. You could always do the opposite - ask your mutual friend to pass your number onto her, saying that if she'd like to meet up again sometime, to text you. And leave the decision with her.

No, I don't think being creeped out is a normal reaction to be honest! In fact, I would consider that to be a pretty over the top reaction!

There is nothing wrong with asking a mutual friend for someone's number. It shows you went to a little bit of effort to get the number and aren't afraid to put yourself out there.

You could phrase your message along the lines of "hey Mary, it's john here. We met the other night. Paul gave me your number, hope you don't mind! How is your week going" blah blah blah..... And just continue the conversation as normal.

Of course it's not creepy. Get her number, text her to say who it is and then ask her can you call her.

Alternatively ask your friend to ask her if he can give her your number.

Go for it-how do you think people started dating before online dating and such shenanigans?
I would presume your friend in common will ask her if it's ok to give out her number, so stop worrying.

If someone asked for my friends number I would contact my friend and ask if they minded me giving it, unless I already knew they would not. Perhaps you could approach the mutual friend and ask them to ask the girl in question if they can give you her number?

I also like the asking to pass on the number option.

In my case if I was interested in the guy I would be delighted if he got my number however if I was not interested I would be annoyed it had been shared!!
