Painting a bare metal door

    Hey all,

So I am looking for the best option when painting a metal garage up and over door. I suppose it is a galvanized door because it has shown any rust in 30+ years so far.

I have read a number of threads and they tend to say different things. I've removed all the paint and am now back to bare metal - I'm not sure if I was supposed to that or not but it was in a terrible state and a bit of sanding to remove loose bits wasn't going to work

I am considering buying Rustoleum 7300 CombiColo and buying some other things from Oxtools. I am to understand that CombiColo would work as both primer and top coat. Does this sound suitable? I really do not want to be repainting the garage door in 5 years.

The CombiColo sounds like a good idea.

Whatever paint you decide to use, make sure you use the correct primer. Often a different primer is required for a galvanised (zinc) surface than for bare steel. There will be instructions for primers on the side of the tin.

Using the wrong primer or none where a primer is required could result in the paint flaking off in time, so well worth the extra effort.
